Brunia originates from the Cape region in South-Africa. It is common there on hills and mountain slopes. It grows in full sun, often in moist areas next to rivers or running water. The Bruniaceae plant family has been found in several fossil digs. This suggests that the plant has been around on earth between 65 to 70 million years.
